Research Focus

Inez Fung’s research spans several areas of climate science:

Carbon cycle: modeling and diagnosing global carbon fluxes among the atmosphere, land, and ocean
Methane (CH₄) satellite mapping: identifying and quantifying greenhouse-gas sources from space-based observations
Climate modeling: coupled atmospheric-chemistry climate models and Earth-system simulations

Connection to Zhenyu

Zhenyu collaborated with Inez Fung at UC Berkeley during 2023–2024 on methane MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) work. The collaboration centered on regional methane anomaly mapping using Sentinel-5P / TROPOMI satellite observations, and on cross-validation methods between bottom-up emissions inventories and top-down satellite retrievals.
