Collaboration with Zhenyu
From March 2021 through March 2022, Zhenyu collaborated with Prof. King-Fai Li on the Caltech DSCOVR satellite retrieval project, where Prof. Li served as the UCR-side co-advisor (jointly supervising with Yuk L. Yung at Caltech). The collaboration focused on Bayesian inverse-problem methodology — including Rodgers’ optimal estimation framework, Tikhonov regularization, L-curve / HBP automatic λ selection, and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) numerical methods. The two co-authored two MCMC tutorial decks (kfl_zyh_MCMC_v1/v2) in May–June 2021 covering Metropolis-Hastings sampling and its application to Rodgers retrieval theory. Prof. Li also recommended Hansen’s (2010) Discrete Inverse Problems textbook as the theoretical foundation for the project’s SVD + Tikhonov + L-curve work. Zhenyu appears as second author and Prof. Li as third author on the project’s paper draft.
